About the speaker:
Eli Weir is a dynamic figure, often seen scaling walls and crushing ice. He translates ethnic slurs for Cuban refugees, writes award-winning operas, and occasionally treads water for days in a row. Using only a hoe and a large glass of water, he once single-handedly defended a small village in the Amazon Basin from a horde of ferocious army ants. When bored, he builds large suspension bridges in his back-yard."I only sleep once a week, and when I do sleep, I sleep standing up. The laws of physics do not apply to me. I balance, I weave, I dodge, I frolic, I have my cake and eat it too. On weekends, to let off steam, I participate in full-contact origami. Years ago I discovered the meaning of life but forgot to write it down. I breed prize-winning paua. I have won bullfights in San Juan, cliff-diving competitions in Sri Lanka, and spelling bees at the Kremlin. I have played Hamlet, I have performed open-heart surgery, and I have spoken with Elvis. I also stole this bio from Jonah in order to avoid writing my own ..."When not spouting nonsense, aggravating his peers, or drinking single-malt,Eli also works in the technology industry. He has been involved in a lot of software development efforts and companies, both large and small, here in New Zealand and around the globe. You can find out more about him via his LinkedIn profile, at www.linkedin.com/in/eliweir.
