Agile, for Real!

So you want to hear about real-life?  Let me tell you a story.......

People have asked for information about real projects, using real Agile techniques.  Well, here is a real-life example, the recent project at The Learning Connexion (TLC).  We built a Student Management System from scratch in only 4 months.  TLC is a typical medium sized PTE which had many small, ad-hoc systems developed over time.  The IT systems were in need of overhaul.  This is a bit of a breakdown of how the project ran, the key techniques used, particularly around beginning the project, and what I’ve learnt for the future.  The bits you’ll be interested in:

  • How to do a flexible contract
  • How do you get the stories?
  • Story Mapping (a key technique)
  • The task wall (running a cycle)
  • What works?  What could you use for your project?
  • The bit nobody talks about.....what happens after an agile project?

Our Speaker – Ceedee Doyle

Ceedee is a PM/BA with 11 years experience in IT projects.  After 8 years at Synergy/Fronde managing projects as diverse as early childhood funding for MoE and Investment Governance for Public Trust, she has spent the last 3 years as an independent contractor.  A keen advocate for Agile practices, she spent many frustrated years wanting to put principles into practice.  Having successfully completed a fully agile project she can now confirm that it’s not just a myth and bask in the rosy glow of a job well done.  Ceedee is happy to pass on her knowledge and experience to anyone who is interested in learning more about Agile/Scrum and how to use it in your organisation.

In her spare time she likes to cook firey food and hit large pieces of stone with axes and chisels.
