Military stereotypes abound, and many are none too flattering. Does the military really operate on a highly structured, deterministic approach? The New Zealand armed forces have a world class and formidable reputation for ‘punching’ well above its ‘weight’ yet in reality are a tiny defence force, operating outdated equipment. How do they do this? The answer might surprise you - the processes are very Agile. Bruce will take you through the organisational approach the air force adopted to develop winning tactics based on constant inspection and adaption; he will outline the training methods that inculcated a generation of fighter pilots with an individual (and Agile like) way of thinking that resulted in their collectively achieving results that were well beyond the capabilities of the aircraft they flew.

About the speaker: Bruce Keightley spent 31 years flying military jets in New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, Europe and the Middle East. He served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force for 23 years before taking up employment with BAE Systems. For the last 25 years he was a flying instructor specialising in training fighter pilots. His career highlights include international exchange postings with the RAF and the RAAF, two squadron commander tours, and a tour as the Director of Air Force Personnel.
