Visibility, Trust and the Evolution of Automated Testing
Visibility, Trust and the Evolution of Automated Testing
How automated testing can and does affect how development teams work together.
Many people when asked to think of automated testing, think capture-replay, point and click GUI testing. However, in reality things aren't that simple. It turns out that building a maintainable, reliable and valuable automated testing system is not an easy task, especially for legacy systems.
This presentation is a (mostly) tool agnostic look, at what seems to works when it comes to automated testing. It will focus on both social as well as technical aspects, including exploring the role of trust, and how the visibility provided by such testing can help agile teams function better.
The session will cover:
- A proposed maturity model for assessing automation strategies
- How to deal with legacy systems
- Some rules of thumb for creating successful automation projects
- The advantages of an agile, cross functional team approach
- A quick look at FitNesse and Cubic Test
It would be nice to keep the interactive nature of the previous APN sessions alive. So please feel free to bring along your own experiences, thoughts, and questions about automation to share.
