Unhappy Leeds man stormed off during Leeds win against Cardiff City

Leeds United beat Cardiff City 2-0 on Saturday but Daniel Farke still wasn’t happy.

The German manager was spotted storming down the tunnel at half-time in yesterday’s game at the Cardiff City Stadium.

A first-half goal from Largie Ramazani set the tone, and although Joel Piroe settled things with three minutes left to play, Farke, after seeing his side lead by just one goal at half-time was furious.

Journalist Adam Pope reckoned Farke’s frustration stemmed from believing his side should have already put the game to bed.

“[Leeds are] totally dominant against the 10 men of an awful Cardiff side,” Pope wrote on his X account.

“Ramazani with a superb finish but guilty of missing a better chance but he’s not alone.

“This should be out of sight and that’s probably why Farke stormed down the tunnel.”

Leeds’ latest result sees them move up to sixth in the Championship table. The Yorkshire-based club host Coventry City next before travelling to play Norwich.

After round one saw Championship, League One and League Two sides kick things off, we’ve reached the stage where the Premier League clubs not competing in European competition enter the tournament.

Paul Merson has praised Leeds United for their impressive 3-0 win against Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

Daniel Farke’s side travelled to Wales knowing that they had to win at the Cardiff City Stadium to stay in touch with the top three after Southmapton’s 4-0 victory.

They didn’t waste any time as Patrick Bamford gave them an early lead after just 13 minutes with Daniel James then doubling their advantage before the break.

Geroginio Rutter then sealed a 3-0 victory for his side in the 88th minute as Leeds currently remains four points behind Southampton with Ipswich Town playing Sunderland in the late game.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Merson praised the overall performance of Farke’s side and highlighted three players in particular who impressed him.

“I was very impressed with Leeds, very professional,” he said via Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Chasing down Southampton is going to be a battle to the end – chasing down Southampton – but I was really impressed with Leeds United.

“Kamara in midfield ran the show, the two wingers Summerville and James, very good.”

The German manager will now turn his attention to next weekend when his side will welcome Preston to Elland Road before facing Norwich City just three days later.

The January transfer window affords every club the opportunity to revitalise their squads mid-season and, if players have been acquired diligently by the recruitment department, it can often be the difference between relative success and failure in the second half of a campaign.

Leeds will almost certainly be involved in a deal or two during the first month of 2024, but perhaps not more than that after a tumultuous summer window for manager, Daniel Farke, and owners, 49ers Enterprises.

One player that could be on the way to Elland Road is out-of-favour Bournemouth man, Kieffer Moore.

The Sun report that the 31-year-old’s £40,000 per week wages is likely to see him loaned out to a Championship side, with Leeds, Cardiff, Ipswich, West Brom, Sunderland and Middlesbrough all apparently interested in his services.

Moore will surely jump at the chance of resurrecting his career elsewhere, even if it means dropping down a division.

According to WhoScored, the Welshman has only featured in four games for the Cherries since mid-October.

In those matches he played five minutes against Wolves, nine minutes against Liverpool, two minutes against Crystal Palace and eight minutes against Nottingham Forest.

A total of 24 minutes isn’t good enough for both player and club, so a move therefore makes sense for all parties.

Championship star given multi-game ban for racially abusing his teammate this summer

Former Cardiff City and Rangers defender Jack Simpson has been hit with a fine and multi-game ban having admitted to racially abusing one of his teammates.

While at the Bluebirds, Simpson was part of the club’s tour of Portugal in July 2023 and one night when players were given time off to enjoy some drinks after a friendly clash with Portuguese giants Porto, the defender abused his teammate Rohan Luthra with a racial slur.

After the players went down to breakfast the following day ahead of their return home, having gone out into Vilamoura the night prior, Simpson called Luthra ‘a dirty P***’ as the latter approached his table.

The incident was reported and Simpon admitted to saying those words. The footballer left Cardiff by mutual consent in August and has now been handed an £8,000 fine – plus an additional £1,000 in costs and hearing fees – and six-game suspension for calling a former team-mate a ‘P***’, reports the Daily Mail.

This will have a significant impact on Simpson’s career as he will find it hard to join a new club after this incident.

After Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup fixtures had concluded, the draw was made for the Third Round, where the Premier League’s ‘big boys’ are also in the hat.

Holders, Man United, were drawn at home to Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace in a tie that the south Londoners will believe they can win, whilst last season’s runners-up, Newcastle, play the tie of the round at home to Man City.

Other fixtures to keep an eye on are Burnley’s trip to Salford City, Chelsea’s hosting of Brighton and Hove Albion and the lowest ranked team left in the competition – Sutton United – travelling to Port Vale.

Chris Sutton slams Leeds United star for his antics against Cardiff City

Leeds United picked up a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City in the Championship on Sunday.

Crysencio Summerville produced an impressive performance for his side against Cardiff and he scored a vital stoppage-time equaliser for the Whites.

The 21-year-old was lively throughout the game and he was one of the main threats from Daniel Farke’s side.

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has now slammed the 21-year-old winger for the lack of respect during the game. Summerville was blasted for diving during the draw against Cardiff City and Sutton labelled his antics as hideous.

He added that the 21-year-old is a good player who needs to show more respect and stop driving.

“It doesn’t matter where you are in the world, we will hunt the divers down and we will call them out,” said Sutton. “But the winner (of this week’s simulation game), Crysencio Summerville from Leeds.

“I mean, it was hideous. Why?! Show a little respect, Summerville. You are better than that. Just stop it. Stop diving. We will call you out. You are a good player.”

Leeds United will be desperate for promotion back to the Premier League this season and it remains to be seen whether the likes of Summerville can help them return to the top flight next summer. The 21-year-old has been a key player for the club since joining them and he is likely to play a vital role for them this season as well.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has confirmed that Illan Meslier will start against Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.

Despite being heavily linked with a transfer away from Elland Road this summer, Meslier, yet to receive an offer from another club, is in line to continue as the Whites’ number one.

Interestingly, despite signing Karl Darlow from Newcastle United earlier in the window, Farke has admitted there are no guarantees the former Magpies’ keeper will replace Meslier.

And now preparing to kick start their EFL season, Leeds, who will host Cardiff City later this weekend, will be determined to get off to a winning start, and Farke has hinted Meslier may be the best option in goal to help his side claim all three points.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Leeds boss, when asked about Meslier’s status within the squad, said: “We need competition. Man management can be difficult but we need competition. We need it in a few other positions. It’s clear that Illan will start if he’s fit.”

Aaron Ramsey returns to English football as he completes move to boyhood club

Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has completed a emotional return to Cardiff City on a two-year deal.

This transfer comes after French club NIce and the player mutually terminated the contract making him a free agent.

The 32-year-old had a successful medical on Thursday and was officially announced on Saturday night.

As a Cardiff City fan, Ramsey expressed his desire to help the club reach new heights and return to the top. He acknowledged the club’s highs and lows over the years and aims to contribute to its success.

Expressing his joy upon joining his boyhood club, Ramsey said (via BBC):

“It feels unbelievable to finally be back here. I always thought one day I’d come back, and now it’s the perfect time to do that.”

“To be back with my family and around familiar faces is just brilliant, so I’m delighted to be back here now. I’ve missed that a lot in the last year or so, so it was important for me to be back around them.

“Obviously I’m a Cardiff City fan, and watching them over the years since I’ve been away, we’ve had some low points but some big highs as well, being in the Premier League and representing Cardiff on the big stage.

“That’s a target of mine – to try and help my team-mates and this club to get back to the top.

“I’ve said it many times in the past – I owe so much to Cardiff, to the fans, to everybody who has been at the club when I was here as a young boy coming through.

“For me now to come full circle, to be part of this team now, and hopefully achieve the goals we want, there’s no better feeling than that.”

What perhaps makes the day even more special for Ramsey is that he signs the same day his son signed for their academy.
