Leicester City could perform a controversial move in January by recalling Tom Cannon from his loan spell at Stoke City just to sell the striker off for cash.

The 21-year-old has been an important player for the Potters this season playing five Championship games and scoring four goals – all of which came in the one match against Portsmouth.

There is no place for Cannon at his parent club at present as Jamie Vardy is taking up the majority of the minutes in the striker role. The former Everton star could become the Leicester legend’s successor, however, the Foxes are thinking short-term and plan to sell the Stoke City star in January.

Several Championship clubs are interested in Cannon and according to pundit Carlton Palmer, the striker would like to join Sheffield United or West Bromwich Albion as both sides are among the best in the Championship and have a good chance of returning to the Premier League next season.

Speaking to Football League World, the pundit said: “Tom Cannon, who has scored four goals in five matches, has a recall clause in his contract from [Leicester] in January. It is worrying [for Stoke]… The Foxes are keen to cash in on the Irish forward.

When naming clubs that the striker could join, Palmer continued by saying: “And, obviously… West Bromwich Albion, or Sheffield United… Of course, you’re going to want to go to those clubs to be in the Premier League next season.”

Leicester City want £10m for Tom Cannon

According to FLW, Leicester wanted £10m to part ways with Cannon during the summer and that price looks set to remain.

That fee will be a big help to the Foxes as they will want to strengthen in January to give themselves a chance of remaining in the Premier League but this sale can be viewed as controversial.

Even though there is a break clause in Cannon’s  Stoke contract, not many clubs have activated them in the past. Recalling the striker just to sell him seems like a pretty low move but on the other hand, Leicester need to do what they can to remain in England’s top flight.

After five games of the 2024/25 Championship season, Daniel Farke’s Leeds United already find themselves five points behind leaders, West Bromwich Albion.

The all whites came so close to automatic promotion last season but a wobble at the death allowed Ipswich Town to grab that all important second spot after Leicester City had run away with the title.

Leeds could look to former assistant to replace Daniel Farke

There was no consolation via the Play-Offs either, as Leeds were edged out in the final by Russell Martin’s Southampton.

Unfortunately for Farke, his side have taken that late season form into this campaign and they are wading through treacle in most games this season.

If things don’t change soon, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the German replaced, despite his pedigree for getting teams promoted.

Indeed, according to Football Insider, Leeds are already scouting for his replacement, and Marcelo Bielsa’s former assistant at Elland Road, Carlos Corberan, seems to be the preferred candidate.

He’s unlikely to come cheap as it’s believed he has a contract at West Brom until 2027, however, the fact that he knows the inner workings of the club gives him a head start on any other candidates, and that has to be something worth paying for by Leeds owners, 49ers Enterprises.

Newcastle United are preparing to send Isaac Hayden out on loan ahead of the new season.

Having spent last season on loan with Standard Liege and QPR, the Magpies midfielder appears to have no future in Eddie Howe’s first-team plans.

However, still with two years left on his contract, which, according to Spotrac, includes a £22,000-per week wage, getting Hayden off their books permanently is proving problematic for the northeast club.

Championship trio chasing Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden

Consequently, another loan move looks to be on the cards. According to the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Championship trio Hull City, West Brom and former loaning side QPR are among those most interested.

Newcastle United will let Isaac Hayden leave on loan
Isaac Hayden is set to leave Newcastle United on loan.

A return to Loftus Road could be the 29-year-old’s preference having spent the second half of last season there. The Chelmsford-born midfielder, who is also eligible to play internationally for Jamaica, started 12 Championship games under Marti Cifuentes and is understandably wanted by the Spaniard again.

Nevertheless, with Hull City and West Brom both also in the mix to sign the outcasted midfielder, fans must await the player’s final decision ahead of Friday’s first round of Championship fixtures.

During his time at St. James’ Park. Hayden, who joined from Arsenal’s youth academy in 2016, has scored seven goals and registered 10 assists in 171 games in all competitions.

Jason Molumby was involved in a heated bust-up with midfielder Samu Costa during West Brom’s pre-season friendly against Mallorca.

The match took place at the Baggies’ training ground in Walsall on Saturday afternoon, with the Spanish visitors picking up a 1-0 win thanks to Antonio Sanchez’s 66th-minute strike.

However, despite being a pre-season friendly, the match was marred by a huge altercation between midfielders Molumby and Costa.

The incident occurred when Molumby was brought down by Costa as he raced toward the Mallorca penalty area.

Molumby quickly got to his feet and squared up to Costa, with the two exchanging words. Costa then appeared to hit Molumby on the shoulder, with the Republic of Ireland international quickly retaliating by punching Costa.

The two players then grappled each other to the ground and were quickly surrounded by players from both sides, with some trying to break up the fight and others getting involved in heated exchanges of their own.

Enzo Maresca is very close to leaving Leicester City after just one season with Chelsea set to announce the Italian as their new coach in the near future.

The Blues have identified the 44-year-old as the man they want to replace Mauricio Pochettino having been impressed by the Leicester boss’ work in the Championship this season as he guided the Foxes to the title.

That was Maresca’s only campaign working in English football, meaning Chelsea have taken a massive risk in hiring the Italian coach.

Leicester will now have to replace Maresca for their Premier League return and talkSPORT’s football editor Jason Bourne has suggested that they could target West Brom’s Carlos Corberan to be their next manager.

Bourne said on X: “It’s very early days, but a couple of us at talkSPORT are hearing the name Carlos Corberan as a potential target for Leicester, should Enzo Maresca move on.”

Corberan is a highly-rated coach in the Championship given his adaptable style of play and has been linked to several jobs in the past, such as Leeds United.

Carlos Corberan to Leicester City?
Carlos Corberan to Leicester City?

Carlos Corberan would have a tough job at Leicester City

Corberan helped West Brom reach the Championship play-offs this season but fell to Southampton at the semi-final stage. Nevertheless, it was a great season for the Birmingham club, who will not want to lose their manager heading into the 2024/25 campaign.

Should the Spaniard join Leicester, he will have a very tough job on his hands as financial restrictions will prevent the Foxes from spending big this summer.

This will be a worry upon their Premer League return as all the teams that got promoted last season went straight back down this term. Corberan can make Leicester a very solid team in England’s top flight, but without big spending, it will be a very tough task.

Although an announcement isn’t yet forthcoming, the smart money appears to be on Leicester City manager, Enzo Maresca, stepping into Mauricio Pochettino’s shoes at Chelsea.

The Italian, a former coach at Man City under Pep Guardiola, passed his first managerial test in England with flying colours, taking the Foxes back up to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Were he to jump ship at the first opportunity after that triumph, it would surely leave a sour taste in the mouth of the King Power Stadium faithful.

After all, there’s a real opportunity at the club for the 44-year-old to build something special.

Enzo Maresca could be replaced by former Championship opponent

If he were to leave it all behind to move to Chelsea, a club that don’t appear to know which direction it wants to go in from one season to the next, he’s arguably making a rod for his own back.

In any event, the Midlands-based side will need to make a contingency plan in the event that Maresca decides he does prefer the challenge in West London to the one he would otherwise have in keeping Leicester in the English top-flight.

According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by talkSPORT football editor, Jason Bourne, West Bromwich Albion manager, Carlos Corberan, is being considered as Maresca’s replacement.

The Baggies narrowly missed out on promotion after being defeated in the Play-Off semi-finals by eventual winners, Southampton.

At 41, Corberan doesn’t have a particularly impressive CV, with respect.

Eight years ago he began his managerial career at Doxa followed by a short spell at Ermis. Three years coaching Leeds United’s U23 side was followed by a two-year stint at Huddersfield Town before an ill-fated sojourn to Olympiacos.

On the face of it, he would need to seriously up his game if he was deemed to be the manager that is the one to take the club to the next level.

Former West Brom midfielder Filip Krovinovic was reportedly subjected to a brutal assault in a restaurant toilet just hours after helping his team secure a crucial victory.

Krovinovic, who spent two seasons on loan at West Brom from Benfica, is fondly remembered by the fans for his pivotal role in the team’s promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder scored three goals and provided four assists in 55 appearances for the club over two seasons.

Following his loan spell, Krovinovic spent half a season with Nottingham Forest in the Championship before making a permanent move back to his native country, joining Croatian side Hajduk Split in 2021.

Krovinovic Assaulted in Restaurant Toilet

After helping Hajduk Split secure a vital 5-2 win against NK Lokomotiva, Krovinovic was reportedly attacked by three men while dining with friends at a restaurant in Zagreb.

According to The Sun, the assailants punched and kicked Krovinovic to the floor in the restaurant toilets before fleeing the scene, leaving him with cuts and bruises.

Authorities in the Croatian capital have confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched.

Reports suggest that the attack may have been perpetrated by rival fans, targeting Krovinovic solely because of his association with Hajduk Split.

Club Statement Condemns Attack

Hajduk Split issued a statement condemning the assault, asserting that Krovinovic was the victim of a targeted attack motivated by his affiliation with the club.

The statement emphasised that Krovinovic did not provoke the attack and stressed the need for the authorities to investigate and punish those responsible.

The statement read (via The Sun):

“Filip Krovinovic was attacked by a group of rival fans.“He was the target of a physical attack after leaving the Kranjcevic Stadium, with the only reason being that he plays for Hajduk.”

“We condemn this barbarous act. We hope the authorities investigate it and punish those involved.“

“This has nothing to do with sporting rivalry. We must stress that Filip did not provoke the attack.”

“His aggressors attacked him in a group when they felt it was a convenient moment.

“It is just pure luck that Krovinovic did not suffer more severe consequences.”

Arsenal have matched a record that you really wouldn’t associate with Arsenal of all clubs – the club of Wengerball, the club of trying to walk the ball into the net, the club sometimes accused of trying to be a mini-Barcelona.

Remarkably, the Gunners have now scored 16 goals from set pieces in the Premier League this season – the most any side has managed in a single campaign in the competition since Tony Pulis’ West Brom seven years ago, according to the statisticians at Opta.

See below for the post on X from Opta Joe, which points out that Kai Havertz’s header against Tottenham in today’s game brought them level with Pulis’ side of 2016/17…

This just shows how much of a changed team Arsenal are under the management of Mikel Arteta, whose side lead 3-0 at half time in today’s North London Derby as they continue to pile the pressure onto reigning champions Manchester City in this extremely close title race.

Arsenal also scored through a corner earlier in the game, as Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg put the ball through his own net from a Bukayo Saka cross into the box, while Havertz later headed in from Declan Rice’s corner to make it 3-0 to Arteta’s men.

Kai Havertz heads in to make it 3-0 to Arsenal against Tottenham

Still, we’ve seen some spectacular high-scoring North London derbies before, so it remains to be seen what kind of reaction we’ll get if Tottenham score early in the second half.

In general, Arsenal have defended set pieces as well as they’ve scored from them, with tall defenders like William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes turning this team into a towering force that can’t be pushed aside like they used to be.

Ange Postecoglou will surely give his players an earful at half time, however, and try to inspire something to at least make their rivals a bit more nervous in the second 45 minutes of this game.

Jamie Vardy let West Brom fans know that they are staying down after Leicester City’s 2-1 win on Saturday evening.

The Foxes went two points clear at the top of the Championship on Saturday afternoon after beating West Brom 2-1 at the King Power Stadium.

With Leicester now looking like they have all but secured promotion back to the Premier League with just three games left this season, it is a different story completely for the Baggies.

Currently fifth in the Championship table, West Brom will have to try and make it through the play-offs if they want to secure promotion.

Vardy made sure to let them know that after Saturday’s victory as he gestured that they are staying down after his sides win on Saturday.
